The Elements of F*cking Style by Chris Baker and Jacob Hansen

If you like: grammar * swearing

If you want to brush up on the rules of grammar and style, but don’t want to be bored to death, The Elements of F*cking Style is for you. Although it is a self-proclaimed parody, it will teach you all the rules to follow so your writing doesn’t embarrass you. I sat down and read it straight through, and actually enjoyed myself—which I can’t say about the majority of other style books.

What separates The Elements of F*cking Style from other style books is the tone. Elements is filled with salty language, and unorthodox examples. Baker and Hansen also take a much more informal tone than you will find elsewhere. This makes it seem like a handy set of tips from a friend, rather than a lecture.

This book is not for everyone. The title is mild compared to a lot of the language used in the book. If that will bug you, this is not your book. If you want to read things like “a dash is more useful than a f*cking Swiss Army Knife,” you are in for a treat (272).
